I (Stan G. Webb - In Retirement © ™ ®) first saw Me'Geswanouth Slahoot was when I went to the Williams Lake Stampede. Here was a man who, for the very first time in my whole life, I heard a man speak the truth, with power and dignity. I was twelve years old.

Grandfather-Chief Dan George "Geswanouth Slahoot"
Tsleil-Waututh (Salish) On This Earth: 1899-1981 Chief Dan George was
the Chief of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, a Coast Salish band, whose
Reserve is located on Burred Inlet, in the southeast area of the
District of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He was also an
actor, poet and author; his best-known written work was "My
Heart Soars". As an actor, he is remembered for portraying Old
Lodge Skins opposite Dustin Hoffman in Little Big Man (1970), for
which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting
Actor. By his film roles and personal appearances, Grandfather Dan
George helped improve the popular image of Indigenous people, often
represented in stereotypical ways. .“When the white man came, we
had the land and they had the bibles. Now... they have the land. ..
and we have the bibles.”..
